Donald Trump is doing tremendous damage to our democracy by denying Joe Biden’s victory. And while his growing legal losses are a basis for optimism and he seems to be grasping at straws, we can’t rest easy until he leaves office come January 20.
So perhaps it’s premature to joke about Trump’s refusal to recognize the election result.
But what the hell.
As Trump’s feeble hopes for retaining the presidency fade, King Arthur’s encounter with a delusional foe in the 1975 British comedy, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, constitutes a de facto depiction of Trump’s denial:
It’s odd that a farce about a fictitious seventh century British king could illuminate anything about a 21st century American president. Then again, that president is Donald Trump.

Apt analogy. Reminds me of another Python line from the Holy Grail. Trump to the American people: “I fart in your general direction!”
